SMART Recovery Family & Friends Training is a strength-based course that will teach you how to empower people supporting those with addictive behaviour.

Description

The sole aim of our Family & Friends program is to improve the quality of life, coping skills and support system of those affected by a loved ones addiction. The Family and Friends programme is a little different to the standard SMART meetings in that you can offer a comprehensive 8-week course to participants in addition to offering drop-in sessions.

 

This 5-hour / 1-day training is accompanied by the Family & Friends Manual which is a comprehensive self-help book for people affected by the addictive behaviour of someone close to them. 

 

Eligibility: The Family and Friends facilitator training is an additional specialised training. As such, it is a requirement that all participants must have completed the SMART Facilitator training.

SMART Family and Friends is an evidence-led group intervention offering an entirely new collaborative approach to supporting family and friends in Australia to manage their diverse, complex and challenging needs. By better understanding which elements of strengths-based mutual aid work best for supporters, you can encourage participants attending your group to build confidence in making the changes that will enable them to take control of their own behaviour and improve their own quality of life.

This training will provide you with the knowledge and practical skills required to confidently and competently facilitate SMART Recovery Australia’s award-winning SMART Family & Friends program. You will learn how to run the SMART Family & Friends program in two key formats: Video conference support meetings, so you can get started immediately In person support meetings, for when it is safe to do so.
